about

Thanks for checking out dirt, so who am I? Besides being the Dirt Princess, my name is April. I am a licensed certified NCIDQ designer (National Council for Interior Design Qualification).

I graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in 2002 with an Interior Design Bachelor of Science degree. This degree provided me with a foundation in the fundamentals of art and design, theories of design, attributes of green design and human behavior.  I was fortunate enough to spend one of those semesters in London studying the history of British Architecture and Design.

Throughout my career I have done both commercial and residential design. I have developed the values of professional responsibility, accountability and effectiveness.

Commercially I have done every type of facility you can imagine: financial, educational, hospitality, healthcare, retail, government, municipal, religious, transportation, etc.

Residentially, I have designed many homes from ground up through move in. I have an extensive background in kitchen and bath design.

Design is what I love.

I create a space in my head, put it on paper, and then bring it to life. For me, there is nothing more amazing than to walk into a building/space that was born in your head. To know that you made the client happy, and gave them what they wanted.

I love color. I love creating spaces that are functional and meet the client’s needs. I often find that people are the most scared about taking risks in their own homes. Don’t be! It’s your home and it should be a reflection of you and your family. Your home should reflect your personality. Take a chance, be bold! I want to walk in your house and immediately get a glimpse into your personality.

I also love junk. Other peoples junk is even better. I like to repurpose just about everything I can and make it into something spectacular. I find junk anywhere and everywhere….sides of roads, thrift stores, and consignment stores, wherever there is junk I shall find it.

My portfolio on this site will be a constant work in progress. Shame on me for not getting final pictures of the residential projects I have done for clients over the past few years. Just part of this business, you finish one project and move on to the next….a year later you realize you don’t have final photos. Since I don’t have amazing photos to show you, I will share floor plans, elevations, and designs with you.  I will be retracing my steps and make contact with some of my previous clients to get those photos I missed.  I will share some of the more exciting commercial project with ya’ll.

Hope ya’ll stick around to see what goes on at dirt. If you have a project, no matter how big or small, let me know. I would be glad to help you create the space you have always dreamed of.
